Key Activities

The Marketing Department of the National Arts Centre is currently seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to join our Team. You will be primarily responsible for developing and implementing strategic public relations plans for NAC French Theatre to achieve the highest visibility and audience engagement.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to
• Developing compelling story angles in line with the vision of the artistic direction;
• Writing persuasive press releases, web and social media content and other communications;
• Cultivating relationships with key arts and culture journalists
• Pitching stories to both national and local journalists, as well as influencers;
• Playing a key role in audience development initiatives;
• Cultivating relationships with the public and speak publicly
• Increasing French Theatre’s impact in digital media including social media;
• Helping in the development and implementation of the NAC’s francophone strategy
• Evaluating results of initiatives.

In addition, you will work with other marketing department staff on cross-disciplinary communications projects , with particular focus on creating and disseminating francophone content for the NAC. As a member of the Marketing team, you will be occasionally called upon to assist with other disciplines depending on the workflow.

Skill Requirements

• University degree in Communications, Journalism, or Theatre and five (5) to eight (8) years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Ability to communicate in both official languages
• Superior French language skills; you must possess the ability to communicate verbally (public speaking, public and media relations) and in writing (drafting, editing);
• Strong attention to detail in your own work;
• Strong knowledge of and interest in the performing arts in general and theatre in particular;
• Direct experience in working with journalists and the media, both regionally and nationally;
• Experience developing digital content, including video and social media;
• Strong knowledge of social media tactics (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube);
• Ability to work in a team and on occasion, take on a leadership role;
• Demonstrated initiative and sound judgement;
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure while managing tight deadlines;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and capacity to manage the demands of multiple stakeholders;
